The work in this series evolved from a previous body of paintings that I created in college. I painted portraits with extreme hairstyles, bright colors, and striking eyes. I was always fond of “over the top” and bold works of art as well as “Avant Garde” in the fashion industry. My interests grew even more over the past 2 years by the variations of wardrobe, hair color and style, as well as the makeup of my students. I find it fascinating to see the creativity that my students reveal everyday through their own personal style.

Having a graphics background and being able to work with digital imaging on a daily basis has allowed for the exploration of color and design. It also allows me to take my painting skills to a new level and to be able to change scale, variations of color and a vast majority of textures in order to create a different image and story for each piece. Working with digital media has also provided opportunities for happy accidents that have helped to influence and bring forth new ideas for finished and future pieces.
Working on this series has allowed me to work with not only beauty and extreme personalities but also humor that the viewer can relate to; a bad hair day, crying over spilled milk, and even the quest for your frog prince. Thus leaving each piece with a different and unique story.
